As the morning light broke through the entrance of the warriors den, Shadowstripe yawned. He blinked his eyes open, and he stretched his legs as he stood. The young tom treaded out of his sleeping quarters, and glanced around. It was a beautiful day to start working on training and he wasn't about to miss out on this chance. The sky was clear, except for a few large puffs of clouds here and there. But, even if this was perfect weather, anything could go wrong. "Where's that little apprentice of mine?" The tom thought, his lip curling into a frown.
Shadowstripe was eager to teach this young cat a few new tricks, but waiting displeased him. Adderpaw should be up and ready to go at the crack of dawn. With a shake of his head and a twitch of his tail, the tuxedo cat padded over to the apprentice's den and called Adderpaw's name. "Are you awake?"

i'll love you forever forever is over His claws scrambled against bark, pulling him higher and higher. The young cat could feel the light breeze, brushing through his disheveled fur. He could do it, he could do it! The trunk was getting slimmer, and the tom had to slow his pace or risk falling. Twigs and leaves brushed past his pelt, as if they were trying to stop him from scaling to the very top. Well, nothing was stopping him today. Through the scent glands in his mouth, he caught the smell of hundreds and hundreds of birds, of all different types. It made his mouth water.
Then there were only a few inches of short branches left. The top was visible! He'd done it! He'd scaled the Great Tree! He was the greatest warrior to ever live! "Yes!" Adderpaw cried out joyfully, as he clawed the last few tail lengths, "I've done it, I've-"
The morning sun painfully burned his vision, and the apprentice had to blink erratically to see the figure standing outside the apprentice's den. "Shadowstripe?" The gray cat asked to himself, baffled. What was Shadowstripe doing at the top of the Great Tree? Surely he hadn't scaled it too! But then, rolling over, Adderpaw found himself on solid ground. "Aww." He sighed to himself, before jumping to his paws. One day, he's scale that tree.
As he emerged from the apprentices den, Adderpaw was all energy. "Good morning!" He called out cheerfully, hopping into place beside his mentor. "What are we doing today? Are we hunting? Are you going to teach me to fight? Are we going on patrol? Can we see the Thunderpath? I wanna climb some more trees. I'm hungry. Can we eat first?" The words came out in a stream, as the young cat gazed up at the deputy with wide eyes and a twitching whiskers..

"Calm down, calm down." Shadowstripe said with a chuckle. "I'm going to take you out today for training purposes. And maybe we'll get a little hunting done on the way back." He swatted the younger cat with his paw, hoping he'd calm down a little. "Don't get too far ahead of me, alright? I don't want our leader down my throat because you got hurt." True, Shadowstripe didn't want his name being said if the young apprentice was injured and hopefully Adderpaw could comprehend that.
"But, of course. We may get a small meal before we take off, little one." Shadowstripe agreed, holding in a laugh. Adderpaw amused him with his hyperness and Shadowstripe didn't mind a laugh once in a while.

[/blockquote] "Training purposes?" Adderpaw repeated with wide eyes, his whiskers twitching. "Sounds vague!" It could mean several things. Hunting, patroling, scenting, fighting... all which were Adderpaw's preferred activities. Well, besides eating. Kneading his paws against the ground, the young apprentices nodded enthusiastically as Shadowstripe agreed to eating first. "Great!"
It was tradition to be respectful, and let the mentor pick their food first. Adderpaw only realized this after he'd dashed over to the freshkill pile, pawed through it, and picked out a sparrow. Pausing, he blinked at Shadowstripe. The bird dropped out of his mouth, and he hopped a rabbit length away. "You first." The gray tom said, bowing his head respectfully, whiskers ever twitching with amusement at his own mistakes.

Shadowstripe shook his head, biting back a loud laugh. The tom strolled over to the fresh-kill pile and took out a finch. "It is alright, Adderpaw. I really hope that this excitement of yours doesn't wear out quickly. You'll need it and a lot of it."
Thoughts of what he could teach this apprentice ran through his head as he took a bite from his morsel. Should he do fighting first? Or maybe a stroll across the border. But, he'd need another cat for that and they weren't exactly available at the time. "Alright, Adderpaw. What would you like to do first? Fighting lessons or hunting?" Shadowstripe looked at the young cat curiously, wondering which he'd pick.

[/blockquote] Picking up his sparrow by one wing, the tom let out a joyful purr. Meal time was always time for celebration. Bouncing a few rabbit lengths away from the fresh kill pile, the sparrow's other wing dragging in the dirt below him, Adderpaw settled down, his eyes locked on his mentor. "Don't worry." The gray top replied, his tail tip twitching. "I don't run out of energy."
Maybe that wasn't completely true, but it was true enough for the mornings. The apprentice could easily go strong until sun high. After that, well, a nap would probably be in order. "Fighting!" Adderpaw all but yowled, his eyes burning with interest. Recently, the elders had been talking amongst themselves about how the Clans were about to break out in all out war. Adderpaw was determined to be ready.

"Fighting, huh? Can't wait." Shadowstripe said softly. "Hm, I might go easy on you." The tom let out a deep and loud laugh, taking another bite of his meal.
"Afterwards, I'll teach you some hunting skills so that we can bring something with us on the way back." He told Adderpaw, tail twitching back and forth.

i'll love you forever forever is over The young apprentice rolled his eyes at his mentor teasing words. He didn't need anyone going easy on him, especially not Shadowstripe. His future depended on his mentor, and the skills the black and white cat passed down to him. His future... tail flicking with impatience, Adderpaw dug into his sparrow, scarfing it down in a few good bites.
Tongue swiping around his mouth, the young cat hopped to his paws. "Okay, let's go!" Paws kneading the ground, the tom eyed the fern tunnel that lead out of the camp. Just beyond those ferns that offered protection against outsiders was his training, the training that would make him one of the most powerful cats ever. Ever. The word echoed in his mind, and he swiped his tongue around his mouth again, as if he could taste it.

Shadowstripe slid through the tunnel entrance. "Alright, Adderpaw. Stay close to me." He ordered, whipping his head around to the apprentice. "Just until we get to a decent enough place to train."
Shadowstripe was attentive to his surroundings though, incase there was an intruding cat nearby. That's all they needed, a raid. Alone, Shadowstripe could take out a couple enemy cats, but with Adderpaw, an inexperienced apprentice, he'd serve as an obstacle if he didn't rush back to camp and get help. "Adderpaw, I have a question. Have you picked up any scents that are unknown to you?" He asked, just to see what Adderpaw could pick out other then the familiar BirdClan scent.

i'll love you forever forever is over His yellow eyes slitted curiously, as Shadowstripe told him to keep close. The forest wasn't an awfully dangerous place, and most apprentices could handle their own. Judging by the way that that Shadowstripe was paying attention to their surrondings... it was like he expected an attack. The thought made Adderpaw's fur bristle, as a battle was the last thing the Clan needed.
Hopping past Shadowstripe, the apprentice raised his nose and sniffed at the air. The light breeze carried several scents to him, including the nasty smell that the swamp always gave off. That wasn't a surprise, being the swamp's smell was powerful enough to cross Clan borders. Other then that, there were the scents of different cats, all carrying the BirdClan scent. But also... "Fox!" Eyes lighting up, Adderpaw opened his mouth and more carefully scented the air. "But it's stale."

"Very good, Adderpaw. Excellent." The tom said with a smile. "Let's continue on." Shadowstripe flicked his tail, leading Adderpaw to a small patch of forest that was cleared of trees. It gave them enough space to train. "Let's get this show on the road.
He chuckled. Shadowstripe ran each technique through his head and chose one. " The first thing I'll teach you is one of the many frontal strikes you can use in a fight against the enemy." He instructed, dashing after Adderpaw. With his claws sheathed, he brought his paw down onto the younger cat's head, not using too much force. Shadowstripe didn't want to hurt his apprentice, now did he?[/blockquote][/blockquote] SHADOWSTRIPE

i'll love you forever forever is over Very good, Adderpaw. The praise rung in the young apprentices ears, and he twitched his ears with embarrassment and pride. He did like to make his mentor proud, because it showed he was doing things not just right, but well. "Alright!" Yowling with excitement, Adderpaw rushed a head of Shadowstripe, and twirling around. Anything the deputy threw at him, the young apprentice was ready for.
"Frontal strikes?" A fancy name, but he understood when Shadowstripe dashed at him. As the white and black cat cut short the distance between them, Adderpaw tensed. He's already attacking? The young cat wasn't prepared, though he did act. Picking his front paw up, Adderpaw got ready to swipe at his mentor, claws sheathed.
Then Shadowstripe shot up, baffling the gray tom. What-! He thought, before his head was shoved down and he lost his footing, landing on his belly on the ground. Eyes gleeming, Adderpaw gazed up at what he could see of his mentor. That was cool. He thought, as he panted slowly.

Shadowstripe leaped back a few tail lengths away from Adderpaw. He was crouched down and his tail was twitching back and forth. "Alright, Adderpaw. I'd like for you to try the same attack on me." He meowed, lips curling up into a smile.
Shadowstripe glanced up when he felt a small raindrop fall onto his head. It's starting to rain, but I don't plan on quitting. The tom thought, focusing back onto Adderpaw. "A little shower isn't going to affect you, is it?" He asked with a smirk.

i'll love you forever forever is over As his mentor backed away, Adderpaw felt a shiver of anticipation run through his limps. He began to knead the ground anxiously, knowing it would be his turn next. Alright, Adderpaw. I'd like for you to try the same attack on me. The young apprentice was more then ready, his heart beating proudly in his chest. One day, he would become one of the greatest warriors ever, and that required being excellent at fighting.
Rain? Letting out a snort at Shadowstripe's comment, Adderpaw shifted into a crouch, his eyes narrowing, "An full grown adder couldn't affect me." Radiating confidence, the tom sprung forward, his paws slamming into the ground and sending him rocketing forward. Remembering what his mentor had did, Adderpaw threw himself into the air at the last moment.
But it felt awkward, and he twisted awkwardly, his tail flailing in the air behind him.

Shadowstripe shook his head and immediately tackled the apprentice, pinning him to the ground. "You can't hesitate, Adderpaw. It doesn't cause anything but put you in a bad situation. Your opponent can attack you and gain the upper hand in a fight." The tom meowed, eyes focused on the younger tom.
"Would you like to try that again?
" Shadowstripe leaped off of him, allowing him to get back onto his paws. He stood in position and waited, staying attentive to his apprentice's movements. In the back of his mind, he was hoping that everything went alright. A smooth session. That's all this mentor wanted.[/blockquote][/blockquote] SHADOWSTRIPE
