Even when the flood gates swing wide open Never let the currents sink you down, no Even when you're not sure where you're going Swimming through a mess and you can't get out Just going through the motions, and trying not to drown { verse one ` } belly pressed softly against the cold ground of the floor beneath her, her eyes twitched softly as she located the mouse. Her tail stright out behind her. Creeping forward, her paw stepped forward. SNAP! As soon as Watersong felt that twig underneath her paw she new that mouse would be long gone but she dashed after it anyways, Fox dung she cursed. She couldn't be so reckless when the clan needed to be feed. Pulling herself backwards into a crouching position, she closed her eyes. Picturing herself play hunting with Badgerclaw. He had always been the badger.
{ verse two ` } eyes flying open, when she heard a soft crackle infront of her. Moving with speed she was in her hunting crouch sooner then a fly in a bee hive. Narrowing her eyes, she spied a plump vole. Stepping slowly forward, she pushed off his her hind legs and shot foward killing the vole with a swat here and a swat there. The dead vole laying in her paws made her feel like a apprentice who caught there first prey.
{ verse three ` } digging a small hole for her vole, she buried it. Hoping she may have enough luck to catch maybe one or two more prey before heading back to camp. She hadn't eaten yet today but she could care less about herself, as long as her clanmates had food that was what counted, right? Moving on to another spot, she lowered herself to the ground and listened. Closing her eyes, flashs of her life showed like a movie in her eyes. Her birth, her clan life, Badgerclaw. Her eyes jerked open, and her body jerked forward. She couldn't keep thinking about him. Digging her claws deep within the earth she bounded a few feet away hoping to be successful there.
{ verse four ` } her luck continued with her, by the time it was almost sunhigh she had one small mouse, a plump vole and a bird. She didn't know how she got that much, nor did she really care. Carrying her prey back to her vole, she dropped them and dug up her vole. Drogging it in her pile. She dropped to her hunchs. She had left when the sun was coming over the hills, hoping to surprise the prey and it had taken her almost hafe the day to catch only a vole, bird, and a mouse. Grunting, she looked towards Starclan. Where were they? Where are you Badgerclaw? she whispered. Her blue eyes shined like water as the sunlight hit them. Letting a shiver run though her body, she sighed. Looking to the prey at her feet, she blinked.

scram! With delicacy unseen in her old fur, which draped from her frame like a withering leaf, the medicine cat bit the chervil plants at their green stems. The leaves fluttered to the ground at her paws, collecting themselves in a rough pile. She needn't much, and soon after starting Mintleaf took a step back, admiring her work. The plant was expertly doctored, so that the least damage would come to the vital plant. There weren't many chervil bushes in GrassClan's territory, and the medicine cat didn't want to kill any of them by harshly plucking leaves off.
Gathering the bitter bundle in her jaws, Mintleaf twisted, padding back towards camp. Her pace was slow and laborious; she'd been serving the Clan for many moons, perhaps too many. Grunting in effort, the tabby picked up her pace, head held high. Nothing would stop the stubborn she-cat, not even age.
Coming over a crest of a hill, another cat became visible. Squinting, she could make out the tan pelt. Eyes narrowing, the old cat thought sourly, Watersong. Changing directions, the medicine cat headed straight for the she-cat, stopping two fox lengths away. Carefully placing the herbs on the ground, Mintleaf's lime green eyes rose to glare at Watersong.
"Relaxing?" Snapped the tabby, her tail tip twitching with annoyance. Warriors these days! They had absolutely no respect for the code. Sitting around like fat fleabags, letting their Clan go hungry. Glancing at the she-cat's meager catch, Mintleaf let a snort. That's not going to feed a Clan. Her acid eyes bore into Watersong's.
"You should make yourself busy." She growled, her voice raspy from years of speech. "In my day, cats didn't waste their time relaxing when they should have been working." The medicine cat's rebuttal was full of scorn, yet in all honestly, she was being relatively nice. It was almost never that the Mintleaf dealt out a compliment; most of her Clan got used to the tabby's sharp tongue.
Even though she found no need to say it, Mintleaf approved of Watersong more then some of the other cats in the Clan. She was clan-born, and although not as good of a warrior as the cats of the past, was still relatively decent.

Even when the flood gates swing wide open Never let the currents sink you down, no Even when you're not sure where you're going Swimming through a mess and you can't get out Just going through the motions, and trying not to drown { verse five ` } her ears twiched backwards as she heard anothercat appouch. Not needing to see the face of the feline, she groaned inwards. Mintleaf. Turning her head so she could catch what she said, she couldn't help but roll her eyes. Hardly she mewed, If you call this relaxing I would hate to be you she stated. Not that she would want to be her anyways, she didn't know how anyone could stand being a medicine cat, all the choices they had to make, all the sighs they had to recieve, if Starclan sent signs anymore that is. Narrowing her bright blue eyes as Mintleaf sized up her catch, her muscles bunched. Let her try and hunt and see how easy it was, it may be easy in the middle of new leaf but it wasn't now. Not when the prey was hiding in there dens.
{ verse six ` } Snorting with disgust, she glared at Mintleaf. She was old, not old as in senoir ready old but old enough. Flexing her claws, she spun around to face Mintleaf. Now facing her she looked stubborn. She hadn't really 'talked' with Mintleaf, she was always doing something, she didn't know what but she was always one place or another. And she hated it, Mintleaf made everyone else look lazy. Letting out a low growl, she heard Mintleafs next comment. "In my day, cats didn't waste their time relaxing when they should have been working." If she lived back in her day, and was clanmates with Mintleaf, Watersong would most likely have killed herself by now. Growing up with those green eyes will most likely kill someone before she herself goes to starclan.
{ verse seven ` } snorting, she glared at Mintleaf. If I lived your day, maybe Starclan would show us some kind of sign that they are still there she growled, shutting her jaw she blinked and jerked her head back. She hadn't meant to say that. She didn't doubt Starclan but right now she didn't know what or who to believe. No one seemed to have any answers. Even the other clans where starting to show that there wasn't much prey in there lands either.
{ verse eight ` } Bitting her tongue, no way was she going to say sorry to her. She needed to be set stright. Ok, ok she was a great medicine cat, someone who was a loyal member but had a nasty temper. Anger flashed in the depths of her eyes, she had no idea what made her so angry, maybe it was the way she talked to her but that had never bothered her before. Rolling her shoulders backwards she continued to stare at Mintleaf, waiting for her reply. She could care less what she thought about her. It was Starclan that mattered. I still believe in you Badgerclaw she whispered in her mind, she just wondered where he was in this world of dark.

scram! Raising her chin, the medicine cat glared at Watersong. Snobby young she-cats like her would eventually wisen up, she knew. Why, old Longpelt snapped at everyone as a young warrior. The golden she-cat of old had grown polite though, with age. Pity. The word flashed through Mintleaf's mind, as she remembered the she-cat's golden body, flattened on the Thunderpath.
"You would hate to be me then." The tabby snapped, tail tip twitching. Her lime eyes were scathing, unforgiving. In her time as medicine cat, she'd simply seen too many brats. More then that, she'd had to do so much. You could only push the organs back into a dieing, slashed open cat so many times before it got to you.
As the younger cat turned to look at her, Mintleaf made sure to fix her with a good glare. Young whippersnappers like her needed to be taught that back talk wasn't about to be accepted. Really, cats these days had no manners. Just the other day, one of the apprentices had hissed at her. There was no reason at all to treat your wonderful medicine cat that way.
Bile seeped into the old cat's throat, as she listened to Watersong's next words. Wizened eyes narrowing, the medicine cat clicked her tongue in her mouth like a whip. Cats these days... The words got to her though, penetrating deep into her bitter bones. For all her life, she had walked with StarClan. For all her life, they'd sent her signs and visited her in dreams. Unlike the rest of the cats in the Clan, the cats of StarClan were her friends, and her family.
"Don't doubt them." She hissed, ears flattening. Distress welled up briefly in her chest, but she wouldn't let it show. Remembering her mentor's words, spoken so very long ago, Mintleaf grunted. If you have faith, they'll have faith too. Now, seeing this she-cat openly doubt StarClan... she was beginning to wonder if her word was going to be enough.
Breathing deeply and letting her ears return to normal, Mintleaf growled disdainfully. "You young cats give up hope faster then a rabbit runs." There was no way she'd ever give up the courage she had in her ancestors. Hell, Mintleaf had grown up with practically half the cats in StarClan! Tilting her head back a tad more, she gazed up at the sky, wondering.
Creamfur, you lazy cat, the medicine cat thought sourly, send me a friggin' sign already.

Even when the flood gates swing wide open Never let the currents sink you down, no Even when you're not sure where you're going Swimming through a mess and you can't get out Just going through the motions, and trying not to drown { verse nine ` } glancing once at her paws, she returned her gaze to Mintleaf. Flicking her tail steadily against the ground. She tilted ehr head sideways. Watching as Mintleafs body stiffened with anger, she should have suspected it since she offended her 'second' clan pretty mcuh. Watersong hadn't really meant to, no she wasn't trying to upset anyone. She was trying to show that she wasn't a dumb naive warrior. Whriping her tail to cover her paws she glared at Mintleaf. She hadn't said she lost faith in Starclan, just that she wished they would send a sign. So maybe the way she had said it may have came across like she had lost faith but she hadn't.
{ verse ten ` } shifting her eyes towards the sky above she winced, digging her claws deeper into the soil, she let out a low growl. I hadn't meant it as if I stopped having faith in them, Mintleaf Even if it sounded like that, was the unspoken massage that she wasn't and wouldn't share. Just that it is getting harder as the days go by with less and less prey each day, and the worst of bare-leaf hasn't even hit she said slowly, moving a twig back and foruth between her paws. Blinking quickly she returned her gaze to Mintleaf.
{ verse eleven ` } Lowering her head slowly, she signed. She being the one with the weak spirit per say, couldn't stand when a cat in her own clan was upset with her. Of course if it was in another clan she couldn't give a damn but when it was in her own clan, no less the medicine cat she had problems with it. Blinking her eyes she looked at Mintleaf, then the sky and let a inner growl rumble though her body.
{ verse twelve ` } returning her, Watersong sared at her for a good few minutes. Before dipping her head a tad and mumbling I hadn't meant it like I lost faith in Starclan- I haven't she said slowly as if she was mulling over what to say next. She has never been good at apologies. I'm sorry for what I said about Starclan and.. and about not wanting to be you she grunted, getting it all out before she could talk herself out of it. She hated this, hated feeling helpless.. Stiffening her jaw, she waited for the smart remark Mintleaf would give her.

scram! See? There was a reason that Mintleaf vaguely approved of this young warrior. She had manners, and knew when it was best to apologize. Many warriors had gotten too use to insulting elders, which should, in Mintleaf's opinion, be against the Warrior's code. Flicking her tail, the tabby mewed, "You should be." But her tone was not harsh.
The medicine cat did realize that she wasn't the only one troubled by StarClan's silence. The whole Clan was in a sort of hush-hush panic, that kept their tails bristled and ears pricked. Never in all her moons had Mintleaf seen the entire Clan acting like that, all their unsure eyes raising up to the heavens. This young warrior was just one of many, praying that some sign would be sent.
"We have to give them time." Mintleaf mewed gently, her lime eyes returning back to Watersong. Trying to avoid sounding preachy, she continued, "StarClan must have good reasons for not contacting us." Or at least, they better have. A sour tone flavored her thoughts. Sooner or later, she'd been joining them, and would have more then supple time to chew out Creamfur.
Pushing herself back to her paws, the medicine cat gave her head a small shake. "Anyways, you should get back to hunting." Her voice was curt again, all traces of that momentary agreement gone. It wasn't either of their jobs to dilly dally. Scooping up her leaves, the tabby padded past the other she-cat, tapping Watersong's shoulder friendlily with her tail as she went.
m i n t l e a fooc. Shorter then my lasts.^^; Sorry to end early; Mintleaf doesn't like talking for long.

Even when the flood gates swing wide open Never let the currents sink you down, no Even when you're not sure where you're going Swimming through a mess and you can't get out Just going through the motions, and trying not to drown { verse twelve ` } dipping her head, she signed. Would she be able to get much more today?Your right, I guess if the sun doesn't show for a few days in bare-leaf it doesn't mean it will never shine again she said softly as she flicked her ears backwards then forwards. Mintleafs supring soft turn shocked Watersong, she hadn't heard it for awhile, maybe not at all. Shrugging her shoulders, she tilted her skull to study her.
{ verse thirteen ` } nodding she watched as Mintleaf picked up her supplys and touched her tail to her shoulder. ?See you back at camp, Mintleaf she mewed, as she reburied her prey and turned around to smell for anymore possible prey. Feeling a tingle in her paws, she pricked her ears. A mouse? Dropping to a crouch sh tilted her head, and laid her tail flat moving with with speed and soon found a dead mouse in her paws. Sighing she turned and padded to where her other prey was buried and buried it in the same place, and turned and hoped to keep her streak up.
