gingerstar is not exactly what you think of for a leader, who is usually a strong cat, one able to face anything and everything that his thrown his way with a sense of knowing what to do. often gingerstar comes across as just a little too pounce happy. he's a fun loving cat, one who has a loud mouth, and sense of adventure that he often lets get the best of him. yes, you can see this cat playing with the kits more often then listening to the elders about old times, when prey was more plentiful, but he is fun. fun to be around, fun to talk to. he has a fondness for getting a laugh from his clan, from making sure every single cat is involved in something that they enjoy. why send a fighter hunting, when you can send him scouting, waiting for the thrill of a border fight? he tries his hardest to play on his clan's skills, their favourite past times, making sure everyone doesn't always have to do something they don't en joy. but you can't always do that, so he tries to make them have fun while they're doing something they don't enjoy. he's a...people cat, cat.
but despite an often fiery and excitable look on the world, he does try his best to lead his clan well – especially now that the medicine cats have not heard from Starclan. he's always listened to what his clan wants, always put his clan's best interests first, and if that means asking questions before pouncing, then he'll do it. whatever his clan asks of him. it's a...noble trait, certainly, but one that's pushed him to his limits often, or made him make the wrong choices to appease a group of cats. that said, he does sometimes let personal opinions get in the way, he's not above that, but he tries his best not to. afterall, that could mean danger to a clan he does not want to loose. gingerstar relies very much on his deputy to remind him of how he should act, and even though he's a good listener, he doesn't always listen – if shadowstripe tells him to calm down at all. but he trusts the tom with his life, and is happy enough to listen to him about everything else.
he's still a terrible flirt, but most of the females in the clan has learnt to ignore him by now, and he's almost getting along with most of them. he does respect females, he just also likes to tell them they're prettier then the stars, the moon, the sparkly thing he saw on his way here, in as love struck a voice as he can muster. history ; gingerkit was definitely a handful, even before he was old enough to leave the den. he squirmed, he cried, he squealed, he pushed his way to the front, only to be pushed back and to wail. he just would not stop doing something, whether it was wrong or not! it was no surprise that when he left the den he was a handful to watch over. he constantly went missing, was always trying to run off into the swamp to do something, he always had to be held back. his moons as a kit may have been partly fun, but by the time he came to be an apprentice he was anxious and frustrated, ready to head out into the unknown and become what he was supposed to be: a warrior! he wanted nothing more then to be a fighter, saving the clan in heroic border battles that saved the clan's territory, and stopped the foul smelling swampclan from getting their muddy paws on birdclan's great tree, or the majority of the duck pond! he was the one who lead his siblings into wild, and dangerous places as a kit.
as an apprentice he was possibly worse. now able to go out and see it all he relaxed slightly, but his ambitions became greater, and he was soon strutting around pretending to be the hero, purring at the few females who'd allow him near them, and acting like he was a warrior already. it wasn't until he actually found a skirmish that he calmed down. it wasn't anything major, just a disagreement about how far one scout group had gone into the other's territory, but a fight broke out. But the end of it all, gingerpaw's fur was on end, he was panting, and he was scared. after that he became just a little more bearable, but his dreams did not diminish. they got stronger. until his mentor had to have a word with him, telling him he was being stupid, over reaching, and downright foolish. there was no glory in defeating another clan, he was told, but there was in making sure that the clan was looked after, well fed, and able to keep hunting where they had claimed.
eventually he calmed down to the point where he was able to become a warrior without a problem, happily becoming gingerfur – most people recognised him from his fur, he was a fairly...noticeable cat - and a warrior that was allowed to walk near a female without ending up being scratched for some comment or another. by the time he was four years old, he was a fairly okay cat. but he'd never had an apprentice. still hasn't had one. he views it as...unfair. but openstar had a reason, and he wouldn't have dared question the leader – or his deputy. which is why he's struggling to question him about the leadership of the clan. upon openstar's death he proclaimed him as his true deputy, and said he should be leader. it went against everything he'd ever known, and he hated it. but he doesn't know if he has a choice.
